I recommend leaving the car down and climbing the hill by foot. There is also a direct express bus service connecting Lisbon to \u00d3bidos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00d3bidos is such a beautiful place. Walking is the best way to appreciate the village&#8217;s charming atmosphere.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>History<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The area was taken from the Moors by the first King of Portugal in 1148. When Dom Dinis first showed \u00d3bidos to his wife Dona Isabel in 1228, she fell in love with the place. The king decided to make the town a wedding gift to his queen, initiating a royal tradition that lasted until the 19th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What to do in \u00d3bidos<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00d3bidos is a place where you can let your imagination take you back hundreds of years. Simply walking through the village is incredible, as most of the buildings are decorated with flowers. You can walk the castle walls but please be careful: there are no railings and the height can reach more than ten meters. The view is worth the walk though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a great little town to walk around, with lots of shops, caf\u00e9s and bars on the main street with lots of interesting side streets to explore as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1034\" height=\"3529\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/inestakestheworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/obidos-1.png?resize=1034%2C3529&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\u00d3BIDOS GUIDE\" class=\"wp-image-2741\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/inestakestheworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/obidos-1.png?w=1034&amp;ssl=1 1034w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/inestakestheworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/obidos-1.png?resize=300%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/inestakestheworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/obidos-1.png?resize=450%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 450w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/inestakestheworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/obidos-1.png?resize=600%2C2048&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/inestakestheworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/obidos-1.png?resize=800%2C2730&amp;ssl=1 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1034px) 100vw, 1034px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the castle and the walls, there are other architectural features to admire in \u00d3bidos. One of the main monuments of \u00d3bidos is right at its entrance: Porta da Vila. <br>\u00d3bidos is also famous for its bookstores.&nbsp;There are 14 bookstores. <br>There are several churches worth visiting as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the main street, Rua Direita, you can admire the white houses with colorful frames and flowered windows. I recommend you to visit Comur &#8211; Conserveira de Portugal. It&#8217;s a beautiful and colorful store and you can find a can of sardines with your year of birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We bought our souvenirs at Casa das Recorda\u00e7\u00f5es. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are into photography, you can take so many pictures there, not only of the streets, the shops, the tourists and the pretty colors, but also the views of the castle walls. The pastel de nata was still warm, fresh out of the oven. There is also a Medieval Market between July and August. For two weeks the castle and the surrounding town recreate the spirit of medieval Europe.
