10 Tips for better travel photos

Since Instagram came along, photos are no longer just photos. In this post, you’ll find 10 tips that will help you create better travel photos. Take a look!

1. Chase the light

The easiest way to flatter your subject is to put it in the best light. If you want your subjects’s faces to shine, turn them so the sun is shinning on their faces.

2. Move

Try to move and interact with the environment around you. A great tip for my ladies out there: try to play with your dresses.

3. Rethink the cliché shots

You can still shoot the same spots as everyone else but try to find different perspectives. Be creative and don’t be afraid to try new things. There are so many angles you can play with.

4. Look for the best hours to shoot

The light is especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset because of their soft, warm tones, the famous “golden hours”. Those are the best hours to shoot so be sure to know where the sun rises and sets in the place you’re visiting. This may help you decide where to be at the best times. Most places are less crowded at sunrise which brings us to the next tip.

5. Wake up early

Most places are crowded during the day but you can have them almost all to yourself if you wake up early.

6. Go to lesser-known areas or destinations

Always ask locals for the hidden gems of the place you’re visiting, they usually know the best spots. Visiting lesser-known destinations in a country that deals with the challenges of overtourism also helps communities in areas that are undervisited. Another advantage is that you can discover new and interesting locations.

7. Research places you want to see

Do some research in advance to discover some of the places you want to visit near your destination. Pinterest and Instagram can help you find beautiful photo locations.

8. Patience is everything

Good photography takes time. Sometimes, when you get to a place, it’s crowded. In Paris, some places literally had a queue to take photos so I had to wait there.

9. Framing

When you find a subject you want to shoot, look around to see if there is a way to frame it creatively.

10. Get lost on purpose

This is something I need to improve but yeah, just do as I say, not as I do haha. Sometimes, I can be a control freak. I usually have everything planned, all the places I want to visit and the times I want to be there. Also, put the camera down once in a while to really appreciate where you are.

And these are my 10 tips for better travel photos.
