Post-quarantine travel: 10 tips to start over

Sooner or later we’ll be able to start over our trips. And when the time comes, we need to be prepared to choose destinations that make us feel less anxious about the moment we live in. I have some tips to help you choose your first post-quarantine travel destination. Take a look!

1. Where to start?

I suggest you to start with your own country. It’s currently the safest option. Besides that, we don’t always know our country or city that well. Start by visiting the museums in your city, strolling through the parks closest to your home, eating at local restaurants and so on. It’s also a way of supporting the local economy that has been shaken by this crisis.

2. Check the situation in your destination

Don’t travel before the quarantine is are over. Travel only when you’re authorized, both in your region and in the chosen destination. Before traveling, check the situation in the region. Also, make sure that all the attractions you want to visit are open to the public and meet hygiene and safety standards.

3. Assess the health care network in the region

Check nearby hospitals, doctors and pharmacies. Write down the paths you should take in case of an emergency. Pack some medicines with you like cough drops and aspirin or ibuprofen for pain and fever.

4. Give preference to short flights or car trips

Any place that crowds a lot of people may not be a good idea at first and that includes an airplane. The less time you spend on the plane and at the airport, the better. You can also take a roadtrip. That will give you more control over the people you will have contact with.

5. Look for small towns

Try to avoid big cities at first since a big number of coronavirus cases are being reported there. Prefer small towns for your first post-quarantine trip. You’ll be more relaxed and it will be easier to maintain a recommended social distance.

6. Avoid attractions with crowds, closed environments and queues

Indoor and poorly ventilated environments increase the risk of contagion. If you plan to visit museums, theaters, concert halls and other places like these, rethink your trip. The same goes for attractions that usually have queues.

7. Prefer destinations in the middle of nature

What about being close to nature? There’s nothing better than large parks. If you choose a beach destination, choose the least crowded one. Prioritize places that are not so crowded, where tours are made in small groups or even without the need for a group.

8. Avoid traveling to places where you’re going to need to use public transport

The more you can avoid contact with several people at the same time and in a closed environment, the better. This includes subways, buses, taxis …The ideal is that you choose a walkable destination or drive your own car.

9. Avoid collective rooms

Booking collective rooms in hostels can be risky. If you want to stay in a hostel, give preference to those that offer single rooms or you can also book the entire room for your family.

10. Always carry a mask and hand sanitizer

Even if people are allowed to travel, in a crowded environment, there is still the need to use a mask and hand sanitizer. There is no reason not to use both until we are a hundred per cent secure.
