Post-quarantine travel: 8 destinations to start over

It’s just a matter of time until we have our normal lives back. Probably you’re dying to travel again. But where to go? First of all, I wrote a post with some valuable tips for you. You can read it here and then return to this post. And now, I have chosen a few destinations for your first post-quarantine trip. Take a look!

Greece

Greece took the new coronavirus very seriously since the beginning and managed to flatten the curve. I think Santorini, Mykonos or any other place in Greece would be a great first post-quarantine destination. I’ve never been to Greece but I know it’s a beautiful country and I would love to visit it.

Portugal

Here in Portugal we have an expression that says “cada um puxa a brasa à sua sardinha” or, in english, “each one pulls the ember for his own sardine”. Basically, it means promoting yourself, so obviously, I had to talk about my own country: Portugal. Portugal is a small but beautiful country, with a lot to see and is slowly returning to normal after the coronavirus outbreak. You can explore the capital, Lisbon, or the beautiful beaches of the Algarve. You can also stroll through the streets of Oporto or enjoy rural tourism in the Alentejo.

Austria

Austria announced its border with Germany would fully reopen on June 15. It’s home to majestic mountains and opulent palaces. But beyond that, its modern cities are proof of how easily Austria combines the contemporary with the historic. You can visit Vienna where the great museums are gathered. You can also visit Hallstatt. It’s on my wish list.

New Zealand

The first case of coronavirus in New Zealand was reported on February. New Zealand has demonstrated continued success after a month of strict stay-at-home orders. North Island offers active volcanoes, culture and history. South Island offers wildlife, wineries and glacial valleys.

Thailand

Thailand has reached the zero daily cases milestone. The government is asking people to continue wearing masks if they go out in public. It’s a country full of culture and is especially known for its beautiful beaches and warm waters.

Netherlands

The Netherlands is one of the European countries that has already started to relax restrictions to prevent the spread of the new virus. The advice “Stay home” changed to “Stay home when showing symptoms”. There, you can admire the beautiful tulip fields filled with vibrant colors or take a relaxing canal cruise around the city. You can also explore the beautiful landscape by bike. Tulips are my favorite flowers. Personally, I would wait for the tulip season, from mid-March to mid-May.

Denmark

The borders remain closed to foreign visitors but a slow re-opening inside the country has begun. The government will reevaluate the temporary border controls by June 1st at the latest. Did you know that Denmark has been named the happiest country in the world on several occasions? This seems like the right place to be, don’t you agree? Copenhagen, for example, is like a fairytale with its historic castles.

Slovenia

The Government declared the epidemic over. Tourism just started reopening with smaller operations including accommodation facilities with up to 30 rooms, campsites and restaurants. Museums, galleries, libraries and various points of interest have already been reopened. Ljubljana is the capital and largest city of Slovenia. The old town is a mix of Baroque, Renaissance and Art Nouveau buildings, guarded by a medieval castle.

So, are you ready to plan your next trip? Where do you want to go?
