If you read my first post, you already know that my first flight was a 8-hour flight. If you don’t, go read it now. Moving on, that’s a long time to spend just waiting for you to arrive your destination so you might as well do something, right? Let me share with you my top 10 things to do on a long flight.
If you have your own seat monitor like I did, there’s hours of entertainment in there! Movies, music, games, everything you need! I remember that I watched a bunch of movies.
1. Snap the sights
I always take the window seat! The window seat gives me the best views. For example, the photo below was shot when I was landing in Paris. That is something you can’t achieve from the aisle seat.
2. Binge Watch a New TV Series or Watch a movie
For me, this is the best way to pass the time. I can easily watch one entire season in a few hours. I flew with Emirates and they have an award-winning inflight entertainment system that makes the time fly (see what I did here?)
3. Read a Good Book
Everyone needs something good to read to pass the time. Use the time to catch up on that book you haven’t had the chance to get stuck into.
4. Play Games
Who doesn’t love a good game? The trick is to find the perfect game for you. My favorite is Farm Heroes Saga (level 819 haha).
5. Listen to a Podcast or your favorite music playlist
I’m not a big fan of podcasts but I know some people who are completely addicted to them. That’s why you should definitely give it a try. On the other hand, I love a good old school playlist.
6. Move around the plane
Your legs will thank you later. Moving your legs about every two hours is the general advice. Also, when you get up to use the bathroom, stretch every body part you can.
7. Stay hydrated
Dehydration during travel can cause headaches, dry skin, chapped lips and nose bleeds (I’m very familiar with the last one). To avoid that, drink plenty of water and pack a good moisturizer.
8. Eat
When I’m super bored, I like to eat. If you know me, you know that I’m always eating and that applies to long flights too. Packing your own snacks will make you as comfortable as possible.
What about meals? I can only talk about my Emirates experience since that’s the only long flight that I had. All Emirates flights have at least one meal service time. Passengers are given a menu with two or three options for each meal. Emirates aims to serve meals that give passengers an introduction to the place to which they are traveling so it’s really a great experience.
9. Write a journal
It can be your personal journal or a travel journal. Write about what you imagine it will be like, list down your itinerary or write about your trip after you leave.
10. Relax and Take a nap
If everything else fails, sleep.
Besides that, don’t forget to ALWAYS wear comfortable clothes. Please don’t wear skinny jeans and don’t do the same mistake that I did: wearing high heels. My feet were completely puffy and dead when I landed.
